Condors Morph into Mustachioed Men for Movember
Published on November 3, 2011 under ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors are joining the Movember celebration, with each member of the team, coaching staff and even the front office employees growing mustaches to raise awareness of men's health.
Movember started in 2003 in Australia as a way to promote awareness of prostate cancer and other health issues that primarily affect men. It has since turned into a global movement that has helped raise over $170 million worldwide. Fans are encouraged to visit the team's official Movember page to track the awesomeness of each player's mustache growth, as well as to donate to the cause.
Each player will have their own link so fans can donate money to the mustache they like best.
"When this is done, we're going to do another team picture, 70's-style," said Head Coach Matt O'Dette. "(Asst. Coach) Kevin Barrett and I will wear leather leisure suits. It will be great! "All joking aside, the guys really wanted to do this as a team. Not a lot of attention is paid to the issues that many of us will eventually face, so we hope to raise everyone's awareness."
Coat Collection, $11,111 cash giveaway and SEAL jerseys
The Condors return home next week to host the Idaho Steelheads on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 10-12. Thursday is the annual Project Warm Families Coat Collection Night, sponsored by 98.5 The Fox and Goodwill Industries. Anyone who donates a coat can get into the game for just $1. Friday night, celebrate 11/11/11 - if the Condors score with 11:11 on the clock, one lucky fan will win $11,111.11, sponsored by Bright House Networks, 101.5 KGFM and Aviator Casino. On Saturday the Condors will honor veterans and the military with 9/11-Navy SEAL Team 6 Jersey Off Our Backs, sponsored by ABC23, 107.9 KUZZ and American Business Machines.
