Midland RockHounds News Release

Midland's Brant Colamarino and Vasili Spanos each went 3-5 as the Midland RockHounds beat the Tulsa Drillers 7-5 Tuesday night at Drillers Stadium. Colamarino had two doubles and two RBIs and Spanos hit his 12th double of the year and had 3 RBIs.

The RockHounds were down 3-1 going into the seventh inning, when they erupted for four runs. With two outs, Jentry Beckstead (0-1) relieved Judd Songster after he issued his second walk of the inning to Brian Snyder. Beckstead walked Jeff Baisley to load the bases. Then, Colamarino hit a two-run double to right field that scored Snyder and Danny Borrell. Spanos followed with a two-run single to give the RockHounds a 5-3 lead.

Midland added two more runs in the ninth. With two runners on base, Spanos hit a double to right to score Baisley and move Colamarino to third. Two batters later, Richie Robnett hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Colamarino and give Midland a 7-3 lead.

On Robnett's sacrifice fly, center fielder Chris Frey threw out Spanos, who was trying to advance to third. Frey threw out another runner in the eighth. When Robnett hit a ball off the center field wall, Frey fielded it quickly and threw out Robnett at second.

The Drillers threatened in the bottom of the ninth. Aaron Rifkin led off the inning with a single to third. Rifkin advanced to third on Christian Colonel's 15th double of the year. After a Matt Miller groundout, Frey doubled to right-center to score Rifkin and Colonel but was thrown at trying to stretch the hit into a triple. Jordan Czarniecki then fouled out to the catcher to end the game.

The Drillers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. With two outs, Tommy Duenas hit a two run double to score Frey and Czarniecki. Corey Wimberley followed that with a double to plate Duenas.

Tulsa starter Ching-Lung Lo had one of his best outings of the year. He pitched five and two-thirds innings giving up just one run on five hits, walking two, and striking out four. He did not factor in the decision.

Midland starter Ben Fritz improved his record to 5-1 going six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and one walk.

Travis Foley picked up his second save pitching the last four outs of the game.

The Drillers and RockHounds combined for 12 doubles Tuesday night.

Tulsa's Franklin Morales (0-2, 3.13 ERA) will take the mound against Midland's Ryan Webb (0-2, 7.15 ERA) Wednesday afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 12:05PM.
