Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

San Angelo - San Angelo Colts starter Drew Coffey (2-1) pitched six innings of one-hit shutout baseball to beat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 6-0 tonight at Foster Field.

Coffey struck out five and walked four. The WhiteWings (14-18) had the bases loaded against him with one out in the top of the first, but Alberto Cruz struck out looking and Jonathan Poterson grounded into a fielder's choice to end the inning.

The WhiteWings had runners at first and second with nobody out in the third, but Justin Holloway grounded into a double play and Brian Nichols grounded out to end the threat. The WhiteWings had only more base runner against Coffey after that.

Jacobs Ramos and Chace Vacek combined to allow one hit and one walk over the final three innings to finish the game.

The Colts (21-10) got on the board against Sendy Vasquez (1-3) in the bottom of the second. Stephen Derrick led off with a single. One out later, Hunter Jobes walked. Butch Ballez followed with an RBI-single, moving Jobes to second. Jobes stole third and scored when the pickoff throw by Vasquez went into centerfield. That also allowed Ballez to move to second, allowing him to score on a Hank Lanto single that made it 3-0.

Josh Collazo hit his first home run of the season with one out in the fourth to make it 4-0.

Lanto led off the seventh with a double. One out later, Jason Diaz reached on an infield single and moved to second on an error. Vasquez intentionally walked Ronnie Gaines to load the bases and Jason Landreth followed with a two-run single to make it 6-0.

The WhiteWings travel to Laredo for game one of a four-game series with the Broncos tomorrow night at 7:35 at Veterans Field. Right- hander Juan Jimenez (0-1) is expected to face left-hander Luis Arroyo (0-3).
