St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (July 23, 2015) - Robert Coe allowed a base hit to the second batter of the game. Then he didn't allow another hit until two were out in the ninth as he went the distance in a 7-1 St. Paul Saints victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs on Thursday night at CHS Field in front of 9,106. The win improved the Saints to 46-13 and a 21.5 game lead in the North Division.

In the first inning Coe gave up a one out single to left to Eddie Young. Mitch Canham then flew out to center and Young was thrown out trying to steal to end the inning.

In the second Coe walked back-to-back hitters with two outs, but retired Steve Tinoco to end the inning. That would be the last time Coe would allow a runner as far as second until the ninth. He retired 10 straight from the last out of the second until the leadoff man in the sixth when he walked Aaron Payne.

In the ninth, with Coe trying to toss his second 9.0 inning complete game shutout of his career, he walked the lone man that had gotten a hit against him to that point, Eddie Young to lead off the inning. With two outs he walked Jeremy Hamilton and then gave up an infield single to Brian Joynt to load the bases. Coe then unleashed a wild to pitch to end the shutout. Coe retired Mike Gilmartin on a fly out to right to end the game. Coe tossed a complete game, the fourth by the Saints this season and the first by someone not named Dustin Crenshaw, allowing one run on two hits while walking six and striking out five.

The Saints offense gave Coe all the support he needed in the first inning. With one out Willie Argo singled, stole second and scored on a two out single from Ian Gac to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.

In the second the Saints tacked on two more as Joey Paciorek doubled with one out. Anthony Phillips and Dan Kaczrowski walked to load the bases. Alonzo Harris knocked home two with a single to left, giving the Saints a 3-0 lead.

In the fifth Angelo Songco led off the inning with a triple and he scored on a sacrifice fly from Mike Kvasnicka to make it 4-0. Paciorek hit his second double of the game and Phillips knocked him home with a single to center to make it 5-0. After a walk to Kaczrowksi, Harris made it 6-0 with an RBI single to center. With two outs Vinny DiFazio made it 7-0 with an RBI single to left.

The Saints pounded out 13 hits with Harris going 2-4 with a double and three RBI. The top three in the order bottom three in the order, Harris, Argo and DiFazio all collected two hits while the bottom three in the order, Paciorek, Phillips and Kaczrowski went 4-9 with an RBI and five runs scored,

The same two teams meet in the second game of the four game series on Friday night at CHS Field at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Kramer Sneed (9-2, 3.27) to the mound against Saltdogs LHP Kevin McGovern (3-4, 4.97).
