July 20, 2019 - National Arena League (NAL)
Carolina Cobras News Release

Carolina Cobras (9-3, 2nd in NAL) vs. New York Street (3-9, 5th in NAL)

Westchester County Center - White Plains, NY

Sunday 7:00PM EDT

Watch Party: Cooper's Ale House, Greensboro, NC.

PREGAME NOTES

Been a while: These two teams last played on June 8 with Carolina also traveling to New York. The Cobras won that game 52-41 and have gone 3-1 since. New York on the other hand is in the midst of an eight-game losing streak. They are also coming in with a new QB Cody Williams who replaced David Legree during their last game.

Shutouts-R-Us: The Cobras have now pitched shutouts in two of the last three weeks and the Defense has now tied for the lead league in Sacks, the defense has been absolutely suffocating over the last three weeks. But let's not forget the offense, as Jordan Jolly is the NAL All time receiving leader for a season, and QB1 Charles McCullum tied the NAL record with NINE TD passes in a game vs Orlando.

Playoffs: The top three seeds are set, 1. Jacksonville, 2. Carolina and 3 Massachusetts, that means that Carolina will be hosting Massachusetts on Aug 3rd at the Greensboro Coliseum and the Cobras want to set the record for attendance. Tickets are either $10 or $20 for ALL Seats other than Snake Pit Section (first two rows on the sidelines).

How They Rank: This is a battle between the #2 Scoring Offense of the Cobras (53.3/game) vs #5 Scoring Defense of the Streets (56.2). On the other side of the ball it is the #4 Scoring Offense of the Street (47.8) vs the new #1 Scoring Defense of the Cobras (33.2).

League Leaders: The Cobras lead the league in the following categories. Total Offense Yards Per Play (6.5), Pass Defense Efficiency (95.0), Passing Yards Per Completion (12.3), Passing Yards Per Attempt (7.3), Field Goal Attempts (16), Interception Returns (27), Interception Return Yards (173), Interception TDs (3), Fumble Returns (3), Fumble Return TDs (3), Fumbles Recovered (11), Turnover Margin (+16), First Down By Penalty (44), Sacks By (30), Opponent Penalties Yards Per Game (60.3), Red Zone Offense (84.3%), Red Zone Defense (63.6%). Individually Charles McCullum is #1 in Total Offense (248.1), Total Offense Avg/Play (7.5), Total Offensive Yards (2,729), Total Offensive TDs (65), Yards Per Rush (4.5), Passing Yards/Attempt (7.7), Passing Yards (2,616), Passing TDs (58). Jordan Jolly is #1 in Receiving Yards Per Game (93.2), Receptions (91), Receiving TDs (26), Reception Yards (1119) which is a NEW NAL Record! Cedric Poole is #1 in Kick Return TDs. Mike Green leads Passes Defended (41).

On The Road Again: After finishing the regular season schedule at 5-2 with a 72-0 shut out of the Orlando Predators the final two games are on the road. The Cobras are 4-1 on the road this year and finish the regular season next week with final road trip to Columbus.

Back in the groove: After a loss to Jacksonville four weeks ago, and a bye week, the Cobras have won their last three games by a combined 202-28 score. This includes two shutouts in the last three weeks. There had only been one shutout in the first three seasons of the NAL.

Jolly Breaking Records: With his performance Saturday night, Jordan Jolly set the NAL record for most receiving yards in a season as he now has 1,119, beating the record of 1,085 set last year by Durron Neal of Columbus. He just needs 14 more receptions in the final two games to beat the record for most receptions in a year (104) as he currently sits with 91. He also needs just six more receiving TDs to beat the record in a year (31) as he has 26 of those. Remember that he also played QB most of the first game against New York in week 4, or all those numbers would already be higher.

Turnover Battle: Carolina comes into this game with a +16 turnover ratio which is #1 in the NAL. The Streets on the other hand come in with a +0 turnover ratio. Turnovers can be critical, especially on the road, so the Cobras are going to have to continue to be ball hawks and protect the ball themselves.

Matchup to Watch: Cobras vs Cobras Now that the Cobras have locked down their playoff spot, they can't finish any higher or lower, do they maintain the focus of the last three games, or take their foot off the pedal? I think with these players and coaching staff, you can better believe there will be focus as this is a business trip for the Cobras. The Defense wants to hold onto the #1 position and the Offense is just 27 total point difference to take over #1 Scoring Offense going into the playoffs.

Last Meeting: June 8, the Cobras traveled to New York and beat the Streets 52-41, setting the franchise record at the time with 341 total yards of offense, but lost the turnover battle 3-1.

Series History: Carolina leads the series 2-0.
