PREGAME NOTES
Familiar Territory: A little over a month ago these two teams faced off in Greensboro, with the Cobras willing the battle 48-33. The Cobras played that game without QB Charles McCullum and Special Teams put 23 points on the board for the Cobras (1 Kick Return for a TD by Cedric Poole) 2 FGs, 4 Deuces and 3 PATs.)
How They Rank: This is a battle between the #2 Scoring Offense of the Cobras (51.0/game) vs #5 Scoring Defense of the Streets (51.8). On the other side of the ball it is the #1 Scoring Offense of the Streets (52.2) vs the #2 Scoring Defense of the Cobras (37.3).
League Leaders: The Cobras lead the league in the following categories. Touchdowns Scored (48), Points Scored Kicking (57), Total Offense TDs (43), Rushing TDs (12), Field Goal Attempts (11), PAT Attempts (47), PAT Made (35), Kickoff Return Average (20.8), Kickoff Return Yards (333), Kickoff Return TDs (1), Interceptions (15), Interception Return Yards (160), Interception TDs (3), Fumble Recoveries (6), Fumble Returns (2), Fumble Return Yards (51), Turnover Margin (+9), 1st Down by Penalty (36), Opponent Penalties Yards Per Game (64.4), Red Zone Offense (90.3%), Red Zone Defense (64.0%). Individually Charles McCullum is #1 in Pass Yards/Completion (12.0), Jordan Jolly is #1 in receptions (51) and #1 in Receiving TDs(15). Cedric Poole leads in Kick Returns (10) and Kick Return TDs (1). Mike Green leads Interceptions (5), Interception Return Yards (76), Tackles (38.5) and Passes Defended (29).
Bouncing Back: After losing two weeks ago to Orlando, the Cobras bounced back to beat the Lions in Columbus as the offense scored on all eight possessions in the game. The Streets on the other half lost a home and away matchup to Massachusetts, which brings them in on a two-game losing streak.
Offense Starts on Fire: Last week was the fourth consecutive week that the Cobras have opened up with a TD on their opening drive. They have done that in six out of seven games this year. The only exception, the last game against the NY Streets.
Offense Bouncing Back: The Cobras offense is back with a vengeance they have now scored on 18 of their last 21 possessions, that includes 17 TDs and one FG. They have racked up 616 yards in that two games and have gone 11 for 11 in the red zone.
Turnover Battle: Carolina comes into the game with a +9 Turnover ratio and currently lead in both interceptions with 15 and fumble recoveries with 6. They have done all this without causing a turnover in the last two games. The Streets come into the game with a +2 ratio so turnover are going to be crucial in this match up.
Matchup to Watch: The #1 Scoring Offense Streets vs #2 Scoring Defense Cobras If you look at the battle on paper, this should be a wild match up. The Cobras Defense has only allowed over 40 points twice this season. The Streets have only scored under 40 once, which just happened to be against Carolina. Can the defense shut them down again? We will find out Saturday.
Last Meeting: May 4th it was Carolina 48-33 over New York in Greensboro.
