Cobras Home Game To Be Broadcast Live On NBC

CHARLOTTE - The Carolina Cobras announced today that the club's upcoming home game on Sunday, April 4 will begin at 12:00 p.m. as a result of NBC's announcement that the network giant will broadcast the contest live as part of the weekly AFL on NBC coverage. Kickoff was originally scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
"This is a very exciting opportunity for the Cobras and the city of Charlotte," said Cobras General Manager Darrell Harbin. "Gaining national exposure is a very positive step for the franchise and is a great way to reward the support of our sponsors and fans. We are all very eager to showcase the Queen City to AFL fans across the nation."
The 2004 season marks the second season of the AFL's broadcasting partnership with NBC. The unique deal with the AFL calls for the network to share in the revenues derived from the increasing value of AFL franchises, carries no rights payment, and renews at NBC's option. The network is scheduled to broadcast over 70 games this season, including all playoff games and ArenaBowl XVIII.
The nationally televised contest will feature the Cobras taking on the reigning Eastern Division champion New York Dragons. Prior to joining Carolina for the 2004 campaign, Cobras Head Coach John Gregory served as head coach of the New York franchise for nine years from 1995-2003. In that time, Gregory earned two AFL Coach of the Year awards en route to two ArenaBowl berths and six postseason appearances. Five Cobras players spent time with the Dragons in 2003, including quarterback Matt Nagy, offensive specialist Todd Doxzon and wide receiver/defensive back Damien Groce.
Prior to the showdown with New York, the Cobras look to snap the three-game winning streak of the expansion New Orleans VooDoo this Saturday, March 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at the New Orleans Arena.
