CHARLOTTE - The Carolina Cobras of the Arena Football League placed offensive specialist Bernard Holmes on the injured reserve list due to a knee injury. The team also announced the release of fullback/linebacker Jason Bratton and kicker Matt George. All three players were with the Cobras during the 2003 season.

Holmes underwent successful ortheoscopic surgery on Thursday to repair a slightly torn meniscus and will miss the Cobras' first two regular season contests. Last season, he set single-season franchise records for touchdowns scored (20), 100-yard receiving games (6), kickoff returns (74), kickoff return yards (1,546), combined return yards (1,644) and all-purpose yards (2,641).

A six-year AFL veteran, Bratton spent the 2001 and 2003 seasons with the Cobras. In 2001, he tallied a franchise-record 10 rushing touchdowns. George ranked second in the AFL in 2003 with 42 field goals attempted and 15 field goals made.

Throughout the final week of training camp, the Cobras' coaching staff will work to trim down the active roster, which currently includes 34 players. According to league rules, each team must reduce their roster to 24 players by Monday, February 2.

The Cobras kick off the 2004 season on Sunday, February 8 on the road against the Dallas Desperados. Carolina will open its home schedule on Saturday, February 21 versus the Arizona Rattlers.
