Carolina Cobras News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Carolina Cobras of the Arena Football League have acquired quarterback Matt Nagy from the New York Dragons in exchange for offensive/defensive lineman Tim McGill. Following a stellar career at the University of Delaware, Nagy spent one season with the Dragons under the direction of current Cobras assistant head coach and offensive coordinator John Gregory.

"Matt Nagy is a smart player that brings versatile abilities to the Cobras," said Gregory. "He can run very well, has a quick arm, can throw it deep and is an excellent leader that will fit in nicely with our team.

Nagy (6-1, 210, Delaware) saw action in seven games for New York during the 2002 campaign completing 105 of 178 passes for 1,242 yards and 27 touchdowns. He spent all of 2003 on the Dragons injured reserve list following a knee injury suffered prior to the season. In four career starts, Nagy has completed 88 of 140 pass attempts for 1,025 yards and 25 touchdowns.

During his career at Delaware, Nagy became the school's most prolific quarterback, surpassing the career totals of current Oakland Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon. He currently holds Delaware's all-time records in passing attempts (895), completions (502), yards (8,214) and touchdowns (58). Nagy earned Third Team All-American and First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors after completing 199 of 379 passes for 3,436 yards and 29 touchdowns in his senior year.

In the exchange, New York acquired McGill, who was voted the Cobras Most Improved Player following the 2003 season. In his first season in the AFL, he recorded 13.5 tackles, five quarterback hurries and two sacks in 10 games.

"In bringing in Matt Nagy we have clearly strengthened our quarterback position," Cobras Head Coach Eddie Khayat said. "In order to accomplish this, we had to give up Tim McGill, who has a very bright future in this league and we wish him well.

Nagy joins AFL-veterans Jarrick Hillery, Travis Reece, Damon Mason and Rickey Foggie among the major additions to the Cobras roster leading up to the 2004 season. Carolina currently has 32 players under contract, while the league allows a maximum of 37 players on training camp rosters.

The Cobras kick off the 2003 season on Sunday, February 8 on the road against the Dallas Desperados. Carolina will open their home schedule on Saturday, February 21 versus the Arizona Rattlers. Season tickets are on sale now and start as low as $64 per seat. For more information, call 877-4-COBRAS or visit www.cobrasfootball.com.
