Coach Snyder Heads to NBA

Austin, TX July 1- The Austin Toros today announced that Head Coach Quin Snyder has accepted an assistant coach position with the Philadelphia 76ers under new Head Coach Doug Collins. Snyder is the second head coach of the Toros, replacing the late Dennis Johnson in 2007. He is the 25th coach in the NBA D-League's history to promote to a NBA coaching position.
"We are thrilled for Coach Snyder and wish him nothing but success and the best of luck with the 76ers' organization," said Toros General Manager Dell Demps. "Quin is a fantastic coach, great teacher, and a friend that I will personally miss."
In three seasons with the Toros, Coach Snyder tallied a 94-56 (.627) record, placing him at the top of the D-League coaches' rankings for win/loss percentages during his tenure. The Toros advanced to the playoffs three consecutive seasons under Snyder, once to the finals in 2008, and twice to the semi-finals in 2009 and 2010. Snyder was honored with the Dennis Johnson Coach of the Year Award during the 2008-09 season and the team claimed the Southwest Division Championship. Ten Toros' players have received 15 GATORADE Call-ups since 2007, three more than any other single team during that same time period.
Demps added, "Quin did a fantastic job with the Austin Toros. There aren't enough words to describe how much he will be missed by our organization."
Snyder joins Michael Curry, Brian James, and Aaron McKie as members of Collins' coaching staff for the 2010-11 season.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join the staff that Coach Collins has assembled and hope to contribute in whatever way I am able," said Snyder. "Having spent the past week in Philadelphia, it is clear that this is an exciting time for the team and the organization in general and I am equally excited to have a role."
On the past three years in Austin/San Antonio Snyder offered, "I will always be grateful to RC Buford and to Coach Pop for their support and guidance. In my capacity as the head coach of the Toros, I was also welcomed into the Spurs family and this provided me endless opportunities to learn about the game. I enjoyed the actual experience of coaching my team as much as any point in my life. For that I will always be indebted to the players that I had a privilege of coaching - some for 3 years and some for 3 weeks. Lastly, the experience of working under Dell Demps, reinforced the value of trust and friendship in a profession that can challenge you in many ways. Dell gave me the day-to-day support that makes coaching fun."
The Spurs are expected to announce the decision on a replacement later this summer.
