Idaho Stampede News Release
BOISE, Idaho (January 29, 2007) - Idaho Stampede Head Coach Bryan Gates has the opportunity to become an All-Star coach in his first season as the head man with the Stampede. League rules state that the coach with the best winning percentage in each division as of Feb. 1 earns the nod to the NBA Development League All-Star Game on February 17, which will be televised live on NBATV.
Currently, the Stampede are tied with the Colorado 14ers, and their head coach Joe Wolf, for the lead in the Western Division at 17-8. Colorado does not play before February 1, so Idaho controls its own destiny in terms of sending its coach to Las Vegas during NBA All-Star Weekend on February 16-18.
Idaho already is sending its dance team, the Farmer's and Merchants Stampede Spirit, to the All-Star event to perform at halftime.
Player voting for the All-Star game at D-League.com also ends on February 1 and selections will be announced shortly thereafter.
The Stampede are encouraging fans in the Treasure Valley to be the "Sixth Man" by packing into Qwest Arena in support of Coach Gates and the team this Wednesday as they face Coach Dennis Johnson and the Austin Toros.
Gates was an assistant coach under Johnson in Austin last season.
Tickets range from $7-$19, can be purchased at a savings with groups of 15 or more, or can be purchased at the box office at a buy one, get one rate as a AAA of Idaho member. Call 388-4667 for more information.
