Clippers Take Down Bats 8-5

Columbus, OH - Jeff Deardorff drove in two runs and Andy Phillips tripled and scored three times as the Columbus Clippers defeated the Louisville Bats 8-5 in International League action Wednesday.

Deardorff singled home two runs in the first inning as the Clippers raced out to an early 4-0 lead. He went 1-for-4 on the day. Phillips went 2-for-3 and knocked in one run for Columbus.

Lance Davis (2-2) allowed five earned runs in six innings to pick up the win for Columbus. He gave up seven hits, including two home runs, and walked one batter in the win. Bret Prinz tossed a scoreless ninth for his eighth save.

Matt Belisle (9-10) was rocked for seven earned runs in only two innings of work to take the loss for Louisville. He gave up six hits, walked two, and fanned one batter.

Bubba Crosby drove in three runs without recording a hit for the Clippers. He drew a bases loaded walk in the first inning, had an RBI groundout in the second, and hit an RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.

Robert Stratton homered twice and knocked in three runs to lead the Bats' offense. He finished 3-for-4, including a double to go with his two home runs, and scored three times in the loss.

Columbus (72-61) won their fourth in a row while Louisville (61-72) lost their third straight.
