Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KYâLouisville Bats starter Seth Etherton (5-6) pitched six innings of perfect baseball tonight at Louisville Slugger Field en route to a Bats 2-1 victory. Etherton retired 18 batters in a row before Mud Hens left fielder Rich Gomez flared a single to right field, ending his run at perfection.
After three and a third innings of scoreless baseball, the Bats got on the board in the fourth inning on a two out, two RBI double to center field by Stephen Smitherman, scoring Rob Stratton and Tim Hummel to give the Bats the early 2-0 lead.
The Mud Hens scored in the seventh inning when Andy Barkett singled to left field, scoring Gomez to cut the Bats lead to 2-1.
The two runs were all the Bats would need as Todd Coffey took over in the ninth to pick up his third save for Louisville.
Etherton gave a very quality outing for Louisville, going eight strong innings while allowing one run on two hits, striking out nine.
James Baldwin (8-7) started for the Mud Hens going eight innings, giving up two runs on six hits.
