Geneva, IL - On Thursday night at Elfstrom Stadium, the Clinton LumberKings defeated the Kane County Cougars, 6-3, to even their best of three series to one game apiece. The LumberKings, who finished the regular season with the most walks in the Midwest League, used patient hitting to beat Drew Dickinson.

Cody Smith hurled six scoreless innings for Clinton to help Clinton even the series. Kane County scored their three runs in the ninth inning off Jovany Cedeno. John McCurdy doubled home the first run and Brant Colamarino launched a two-run blast to right field.

During the fifth inning, Clinton started their rally on one-out singles by Pedro Quero and Chris Jaile. Dickinson gave up a two-out walk to Craig Ringe and a free pass to Anthony Webster, forcing in the game's first run. Chris O'Riordan, who entered the game 2-for-3 against Dickinson, cleared the bases with double.

Clinton scored two unearned runs off Chris Dunwell in the eighth inning. The trouble started with walks to O'Riordan and Nate Gold. Hector Lebron reached on a fielding error by the second baseman Francis Gomez. Juan Senreiso walked to force in the fifth run and force Dunwell out of the game. Brad Sullivan relieved Dunwell and got Quero to hit into a double play, but the sixth run crossed the plate.

The LumberKings turned four double plays in tonight's game; all after the Cougars put the lead man on base.

McCurdy, Colamarino, and Gomez all finished with two hits, Nelson Cruz and Brian Stavisky pitched in with a single apiece.

Tomorrow night at Elfstrom Stadium, the Cougars or the LumberKings look to advance in the second round of the playoffs. The winner faces Beloit on Saturday night at Pohlman Field. Cesar Herrera will get the starting nod for Clinton; the Cougars have yet to name a starter.
