August 27, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters announced the release of their 76-game regular season schedule for the upcoming 2015-16 season earlier today. This season will mark the American Hockey League team's ninth campaign in Cleveland, and first as the primary developmental affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Monsters home opener is set for Friday, October 16th at 7:00 p.m. against the Iowa Wild at Quicken Loans Arena. The season opener for the Monsters is scheduled for Friday, October 9th at 7:05 p.m. vs. the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY.
The Monsters '15-16 schedule includes a slate of 25 weekend home games, of which there are 12 Friday night games, 10 Saturday games (including three Sat. afternoon contests) and three Sunday matinees. Among the weekend home games are a clash with the Manitoba Moose the day after Thanksgiving on Friday, November 27th, at 7:00 p.m. and a Saturday, December 26th matchup with the rival Grand Rapids Griffins at 7:00 p.m.
This will be the second straight year the Monsters will begin the season away from The Q and the third time in team history. The regular season schedule concludes with back-to-back home games against the Charlotte Checkers on Thursday, April 14th at 7:00 p.m. and Friday, April 15th at 7:00 p.m. Overall, the Monsters longest homestand of the season is seven games; a span that begins on Friday, February 19th against the San Antonio Rampage and ends on Thursday, March 3rd with a 7:00 p.m. game against the Milwaukee Admirals.
A 10-game road swing from December 31st, 2015 to January 18th, 2016 marks the longest stretch away from home for the Monsters in '15-16. The Monsters will play each of the seven other teams in the newly-realigned Central Division of the Western Conference, and they will also have matchups against two members of the newly-formed Pacific Division: San Antonio and the Texas Stars. The Monsters will also see the continuation of their rivalries with Rochester and the Toronto Marlies, marking the first time the Monsters will see Eastern Conference opposition since 2012-13.
New this season, the Monsters will have 7:00 p.m. start times for all Friday night home games. Additionally, all Saturday games will start at 7:00 p.m. with the exception of the following games: October 17th vs. Iowa - 5:00 p.m. (Kids Night); December 12th vs. Chicago - 7:30 p.m. (doubleheader at The Q with Cleveland State Basketball playing an afternoon game); January 23rd vs. Milwaukee - 1:30 p.m. (Kids Day / Doubleheader at The Q with the Cavs playing Chicago at 8:30 p.m.); January 30th vs. Texas - 1:30 p.m. (Kids Day / Doubleheader at The Q with the Cavs playing San Antonio at 8:30 p.m.) and February 27th vs. Rockford (Doubleheader at The Q with Cleveland State Basketball playing an afternoon game).
