TAMPA, Fla. - Victor Arano settled in after a rocky first to give the Threshers six innings of three-hit ball on Saturday, but Clearwater was shut out for the second consecutive game in suffering a 3-0 loss to the Tampa Yankees at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Clearwater (27-29) was swept by Tampa in the three-game set, and is now six games back of first-place Daytona with 14 games left in the first half. It was the third-straight pitchers' duel between the two teams, as Clearwater and Tampa combined for just nine runs in the series.

The Yankees (29-27) got on the board quickly, after Abiatal Avelino doubled, Tyler Wade walked, and the pair pulled off a double steal to open the bottom of the first.

Miguel Andujar then pulled a grounder to third, and the Threshers conceded the run to get the first out of the game as Avelino crossed the plate. Mike Ford followed with a single through the left side to make it 2-0.

Arano (0-7) settled in from there. He allowed just one hit - an Ericson Leonara homer in the fifth - the rest of the way.

The Threshers right-hander lasted six innings for his second-longest start of the year, and allowed three runs on just three hits and a walk.

Clearwater's only real opportunity came in the second inning, after Mitch Walding and Drew Stankiewicz pulled back-to-back singles through the right side. Jonathan Holder then got Chase Harris to bounce into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

Holder (4-2) earned the win after shutting out the Threshers on two hits across his six innings. He and three Tampa relievers combined to retire the final 17 batters of the game.

The Threshers will be off on Sunday, but return home to face the Bradenton Marauders on Wing Fest at Bright House Field on Monday. David Whitehead (2-6) will take the mound against Bradenton's Cody Dickson (4-4). The call can be heard live beginning at 6:45 p.m. on the Threshers Broadcast Network.

A $13 Feeding Frenzy ticket will grant fans admission to the game plus access to samples of wings from 12 different local restaurants. Tickets can be purchased at the Threshers box office.
