WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - The BlueClaws gutted out a 6-5, 10 inning win on Sunday in Hudson Valley, taking the lead on an Andrick Nava SAC fly. Charles King got the last six outs, including a scoreless 10th, to earn his first professional win.
Jersey Shore (22-17) had dropped the first four games of the series but won the last two. They remain one game back of Greensboro in the SAL Northern Division.
The BlueClaws scored twice in the first inning. Leandro Pineda drove in a run on a groundout and Otto Kemp, who had singled and added a stolen base, scored on a balk. William Bergolla, who had three hits on Saturday, added an RBI single in the second for a 2-0 BlueClaws advantage.
Pineda, who homered on Saturday, hit his 5th of the season in the top of the third to put the BlueClaws up 4-0.
Jace Avina doubled home two runs off Staryln Castillo on the fifth for Hudson Valley, though Jack Dallas came on and got the last two outs to end the inning. Castillo came out after 4.1 innings and was charged with two runs with four walks and six strikeouts. He did not factor in the decision.
The Renegades tied the game with RBI doubles by Cole Gabrielson and Jared Serna off Jack Dallas in the sixth. Jersey Shore then re-took the lead in the seventh on a SAC fly by Felix Reyes. He drove in Otto Kemp who had walked and stole second.
The BlueClaws led into the eighth, when the Renegades tied the game on a groundout from Jace Avina off Andrew Walling.
Charles King threw a scoreless ninth to send the game to the 10th, where Andrick Nava's SAC fly gave Jersey Shore the lead.
King stayed on for the bottom of the 10th. Shortstop Erick Brito threw out the ghost runner at third to start the inning. King got the last two outs, including a flyout to Kemp in right field to end the game. It was Kemp's first professional inning playing anywhere in the outfield.
King (1-0) earned his first professional win with two scoreless innings to close it out.
Andrick Nava had three hits in the win while Felix Reyes and William Bergolla each had two for the BlueClaws. Kemp had a hit, two walks, and stole two bases. He went 10-24 in the series and is up to .330 on the season.
The BlueClaws head to Aberdeen to open a six game series on Tuesday. They return home on Tuesday, May 28th to take on Brooklyn (Mets).
