City of Trenton Supports Thunder's Program to Provide Tickets to Trenton Children

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, Double A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, and the city of Trenton held a press conference on Tuesday morning to announce the city's participation in the Thunder's Tickets For Kids Program. It was also announced that the Trenton Marriott Downtown and the Thunder have agreed to terms on an contract extension that will keep the hotel as the official host hotel of the visiting teams through the 2013 season.

Trenton Mayor Tony Mack announced that the city will participate in the Thunder's Tickets For Kids program making it possible for 250 children to attend games this season. The tickets will be for Tuesday night games on which the Thunder host Super Value Tuesdays. The Thunder offer Kids Eat Free presented by On The Border at all Tuesday night home games as part of the promotion. All children ages 12 and under receive a voucher when they enter the ballpark that can be redeemed for a free hot dog, bag of chips and soda as well as a voucher that can be redeemed for a free children's meal at On The Border. Super Value Tuesdays also include $1 Hot Dogs for all fans.

"We are excited that 250 children who might not ordinarily be able to attend a game with us will do so this season because of the generosity of the city of Trenton," said Thunder General Manager Will Smith. "The fact that the city is providing the tickets and we're providing food for them really makes this a home run of a partnership."

The Tickets For Kids program provides the opportunity for companies to make a tax deductible donation in which game tickets are provided to children from 501 (c) 3 non-profit groups at a special rate. Since 1996, over 65,000 children have enjoyed Thunder baseball because of this program.

It was also announced at Tuesday's press conference that Mayor Mack will throw a ceremonial "first pitch" prior to the home opener on Thursday evening at 7:05 pm. This is the first Opening Night of Mayor Mack's tenure and his first pitch will take place on the field at approximately 6:45 pm. The 2011 Trenton Thunder home opener is set for Thursday, April 14 versus Harrisburg. All Trenton Thunder tickets are all on sale now at trentonthunder.com.
