Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
The Idaho Falls Chukars started a three-game series in Ogden, Utah against the Raptors with a 4-2 win Friday. The win at Lindquist field was propelled by the two men who took the mound for Idaho Falls.
Chukars' starter Colby Beach improved to 3-3 after allowing only one run in six and a third innings. Beach gave up only three hits and one walk, while striking out five. In his longest outing of the season, Beach never faced more than four batters in an inning. Blaine Hardy was the only relief pitcher the Chukars needed in the series opener. Hardy allowed only one run, walked no Raptors' batters, and finished with four strikeouts. In the ninth three batters got a hit off of Hardy, but he also recorded three strikeouts that inning. The one run each Chukars' pitcher allowed was on a Kyle Russell solo home run.
The top three and bottom two batters in the Chukars' batting order produced all ten of the hits for Idaho Falls. While Patrick Norris and Antonio Jimenez both went 3-for-5, it was new catcher Salvador Perez who ignited the offense. With the Chukars up 1-0 in the fifth inning, Perez hit a one-out triple and later scored on a Fernando Garcia single. Then in the eighth inning, with two outs and two runners aboard in a 2-1 game, Perez hit a single to drive in Shawn Griffin. The run scored by Griffin proved to be the game winner, but the Chukars also scored Carlo Testa that inning on a bases-loaded wild pitch. The Chukars were aggressive on the bases, as the team was credited with five stolen bases.
With a fourth straight win the Chukars are now 13-11 in the second half. Game two of the three-game series at Lindquist field is scheduled for 7:10 Saturday night. The game can heard in Idaho Falls on 980 AM and 103.7 FM. The game can also be heard on the Internet at www.ifchukars.com.
