Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
A game that was billed as a pitcher's duel between Ali Williams of the Chukars and JC Casey of the Voyagers instead turned into a Great Falls route, as the Voyagers finished off their sweep of Idaho Falls with a 9-4 Chukars loss Tuesday night at Melaleuca Field.
Williams entered the contest as the newly anointed Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week, while Casey started the game with 18.1 consecutive scoreless innings pitched. Casey fulfilled his end of the bargain. Williams did not.
Great Falls jumped on the normally dominant Greybird hurler for four first inning runs and another tally in the 2nd to take a quick 5-0 lead. Williams would exit the game before starting the fourth with an injury, but the Chukars bullpen didn't fare any better as John Killen entered and allowed a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to put Idaho Falls down 8-0.
Casey meanwhile tossed his fourth straight scoreless game, going five shutout innings on just four hits to push his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 23.1.
Great Falls would tack on one final run in the eighth to go up 9-0 before the Chukars would mount a four run rally in the 9th to finish the game with a 9-4 loss. The rally included a one out, solo homer from Diego Goris, an RBI double from Jerico Blanco and a two-RBI single from Adalberto Mondesi.
For the series the Chukars offense posted an impressive 41 hits in four games, but 37 of the knocks were singles.
Casey (4-1) earned the win for his shutout performance while Williams (2-2) took the loss in his worst outing of the year. Ali finished the night allowing five runs on five hits over just 3 innings pitched.
With the loss the Chukars have now dropped four in a row to drop a season low 5 games under .500 at 12-17. The Voyagers meanwhile improve their Pioneer League best record to 19-10.
The Chukars will have an off day Wednesday before starting a 7-game North Division road trip in Helena on Thursday.
