Great Falls Voyagers News Release
IDAHO FALLS - The Great Falls Voyagers (19-10) lived up to their name this week as they finished a seven game road trip with a 9-4 win Tuesday night over the Idaho Falls Chukars (12-17). The win gave the Voyagers a four game sweep over Idaho Falls and six wins on their seven game trip.
After a seesaw, eleven inning game last night, the Voyagers wanted to take no risks on Tuesday. Spurred by a hit-by-pitch and a walk, the Voyagers scored four times for an early 4-0 lead. Abe Ruiz' two-RBI double was the big blow in the inning. With a single in his next at bat, Ruiz had hits in four consecutive at bats, dating back to Monday night, including three doubles. They added a single run in the second, another in the fourth, and two runs in the fifth and led 5-0.
That was plenty enough for JC Casey (4-1) who pitched his fourth straight start without allowing a run. Casey lasted five innings while allowing only four hits and striking out three. Casey has now not allowed a run in 23.1 consecutive innings pitched. David Putman took over in the sixth and pitched a scoreless frame with two strikeouts. Zach Toney entered in the seventh and set down six in a row including three strikeouts in the eighth, and four total. The Chukars got four runs in the ninth off Andrew Virgili, but he ended the game without any real threat.
The red-hot Voyagers, winners of nine of their last ten, return to Centene Stadium to host Ogden and Idaho Falls. The homestand starts on Thursday night against the Raptors at 7 PM. It is Sip 'N Dip Thirsty Thursday so all draft beers are just $2. It is also Sting Mug Night and the first $500 fans will receive a free Mug. The 22 oz. mug can be filled for the $2 Thirsty Thursday deal for a free 8 oz. of beer. It can also be brought to The Sting for the rest of the season for a $3 draft. Tickets are available at 452-5311 or gfvoyagers.com.
