Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

BILLINGS , MT --- To wrap up a three-game series at Dehler Park and a nine-game roadtrip overall, the Idaho Falls Chukars fell to the Billings Mustangs on Wednesday night by a score of 6-3 at Dehler Park.

Despite losing the game, the Chukars got on the board first in the top of the first inning against starter Mustangs Tanner Rainey. Following a double from second basemen Jeckson Flores with one out, two consecutive wild pitches from Rainey plated Flores to make the score 1-0.

Unfortunately for Idaho Falls, the Billings bats stole the momentum from that point on.

After the Mustangs tied up the game in the first, a four-run third inning sparked by two errors from the Chukars defense put Billings up by four. Headlining the surge was a RBI triple by outfielder Jonathan Martijin, a RBI double from third basemen Brantley Bell and a RBI single from first basemen Raydel Medina.

Billings tacked on their only other run in the fifth inning on a solo homer from first basemen Kevin Franklin.

Offensively for the Chukars, the scored a run in the seventh on a RBI double by third basemen Logan Nottebrok and another one in the eighth inning on a throwing error by the Mustangs. Idaho Falls was sent down in the ninth inning by Mustangs closer Jimmy Herget, who notched his 9th save of the year with a scoreless frame.

On the pitching side, Chukars starter Todd Eaton (L, 2-4) took the loss despite just two of the five runs he gave up being earned. His six innings pitched ties a season high.

Aside from Eaton, lefty Matt Portland tossed two scoreless frames, striking out four batters in the process.

With the loss, the Chukars finished their season-long nine-game roadtrip with a 6-3 record. They sit in first place in the Pioneer League South and still sport the best league record overall during that time at 9-4.

Following an offday on Thursday, the Chukars will return home to Melaleuca Field for a week by starting three-game series against the Helena Brewers on Friday. Idaho Falls will send RHP Carter Hope while Helena will counter with a pitcher that is yet to be determined. First pitch is at 7:15 PM.
