Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Mississippi RiverKings forward Jeff Christian scored two goals, including the game-winner with 52 seconds remaining in overtime, leading his team to a 5-4 victory over the Laredo Bucks on Saturday, November 27th at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.

The RiverKings moved to 8-9-0 for the season, ahead of a Sunday afternoon game at Bossier-Shreveport. Laredo is winless in its last two contests and has a 6-8-3 record. Mississippi moved one point ahead of the Bucks in fifth place in the Central Hockey League Berry Conference standings with the win.

The teams traded goals in the first period, Patrik Levesque scoring in his first shift as a RiverKings since coming from Quad City. Levesque's goal at 29 seconds gave Mississippi a 1-0 lead, which Laredo tied at 8:39 on a tally by Jeff Hazelwood.

In the second period, Mississippi took a 4-3 lead at the intermission break after goals from Matt Miller and Christian's first of the night. Miller scored his third of the year at 3:12 to knot the game at 2-2, then Christian's third of the season came at 8:36 to give the RiverKings a 3-2 lead after forty minutes of play. R.G. Flath's deflection of a Matt Summers shot with 3:17 left in the second period was the goal that gave Mississippi the one-goal lead going into the final period.

However, Jeff Bes gave Laredo a 2-1 advantage at 23 seconds of the middle period with his sixth goal of the year and tied it up at 3-3 with his second of the night and seventh of the season with seven minutes remaining.

Darryl Smith tied the game for Laredo with eight minutes left in overtime to send it to the overtime.

That's when Christian's shot from the left shot beat the Laredo goaltender for the game-winning goal at 4:08 of the extra session. Andrew Lackner and Chris Richards earned assists on the goal.

Neither team scored on the power play with each team going 0-for-3. Mississippi outshot the Bucks 36-20, as winning goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy (4-3-0) stopped 16 Laredo shots. Torrie Jung (4-4-1) took the loss for Laredo with a 31-save effort.
