Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - Saturday night, the Rapid City Rush tangled with the Odessa Jackalopes in a back-and-forth battled that needed extra time to be decided. Goaltenders Danny Battochio and Michel Robinson combined for 62 saves on the night as the Jacks edged the Rush 3-2 in a shootout. The Rush penalty kill put on a show, stopping all seven powerplay chances against, including two five-on-three's and one five-minute major.

The Rush hit the ice looking to control the tempo from the start, and they did so with early pressure leading to the game's first goal. Just 1:26 into the contest, Brendon Hodge fired a shot that was blocked by Michel Robinson, but Andrew Martin was there to send home the rebound for his 5th goal of the season. The Jackalopes responded at the 5:04 mark when Sebastien Thinel crept behind the defense and received a stretch pass from Kenny Corupe. Thinel was able to slide a shot through the five-hole of Danny Battochio for his 13th goal of the season and league-leading 32nd point.

Thinel would continue his stellar weekend with his second goal of the game 6:07 into the second. Fresh out of the penalty box, Thinel joined the offensive rush late and was able to slam home a rebound for the 2-1 lead.

It took over 25 minutes, but the Rush would even the score on Ryan Menei's team-leading 12th goal. An outlet pass from Les Reaney hit Menei on the right wing and the forward snapped a wrist shot under the glove of Robinson to make it 2-2.

With neither team finding the game-winner in overtime, the game headed to a shootout where both goaltenders stood tall, forcing seven rounds. Dominic Leveille and Andrew Martin found the back of the net before Alex Dunn scored the decisive goal for the 3-2 win and weekend sweep.

The Rush now hit the road for a game against the Wichita Thunder on Wednesday, December 1st at 6:05PM MST.
