BOSSIER CITY, LA --- Bossier-Shreveport scored four unanswered goals from late in the second period into the third period to come back from a 2-0 Mississippi RiverKings lead and defeat the RiverKings 5-4 on Sunday, November 28 at Bossier City, Louisiana.
Mississippi took the lead in the first period on a pair of unassisted goals. Patrik Levesque netted the first goal at 7:43 of the period for a 1-0 lead. It was his third goal of the year and second in as many nights with the RiverKings.
After a Mississippi penalty, R.G. Flath added to the lead with an unassisted goal at 18: 24 to make it 2-0 after one period of play.
Bossier-Shreveport scored the only goal of the second period, when Shane Hart potted his third of the year at 18:14, assisted by Jeff Martens for a 2-1 RiverKings lead after forty minutes of play. Mississippi entered the game unbeaten in five games when leading after two periods.
But, the Mudbugs opened the game up early in the final period on goals from Jeff Martens, David Rutherford, and Joe Blaznek, before RiverKings' defenseman Andrew Lackner scored on the power play at 13:09 to get back within 4-3.
Blaznek then answered with his second goal of the game on the power less than a minute later for the eventual game-winning goal.
Lackner again got the RiverKings within one marker at 5-4, but could get no further, as the Mudbugs held off the final Mississippi effort and won the game.
Each team scored once on the power play, as Mississippi was 1-for-6 with the extra man and Bossier-Shreveport was 1-for-5. Mississippi also received a shorthanded goal from Flath.
Larry Sterling lost in his first start since returning from the injured reserve. Sterling's record fell to 3-3-0 with a 32 save effort. John DeCaro (6-1-0) was the winning goaltender for Bossier-Shreveport, stopping 30 of 34 Mississippi shots on net.
Next action for the RiverKings will be at home Tuesday night, when Mississippi hosts Evansville at the DeSoto Civic Center. Game time is at 7:05 PM and broadcast coverage will be on 87.7 FM The Pig with Bob Bakken at 6:50 PM.
