St. John's, NL - The Newfoundland Growlers are proud to announce that broadcaster Chris Ballard has joined the club's front office and will serve as the primary play-by-play voice ahead of the 2018-19 ECHL season.

Ballard, 31, hails from St. John's, and returns home after spending three seasons as play-by-play broadcaster and public relations coordinator with the ECHL's Brampton Beast.

Prior to joining the Beast, Ballard spent two seasons with the media team of the St. John's IceCaps, providing content for the team's website and contributing to the broadcast as the 'IceCaps Insider' on Rogers TV. A graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2009 and of Centennial College's Sports Journalism graduate program in 2010.

"To get the opportunity to come back to my hometown to work for a first-class organization like the Growlers is truly a dream come true," Ballard said. "I look forward to bringing my high-energy style to the fans and finding new and exciting ways to engage with the community."

Ballard takes over from longtime IceCaps and St. John's Maple Leafs broadcaster Brian Rogers, who will remain involved with the broadcast after recovering from minor health issues.

All broadcasts can be found online for free using the streaming platform Mixlr at mixlr.com/NLGrowlers. Mixlr is compatible with both home computers and mobile devices and allows for fan interaction with the broadcast team during the game.
