Chorneyko Stays in Colorado, Looks to Build off Strong Rookie Campaign
August 3, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles announced today that they've re-signed forward Adam Chorneyko (pronounced: chore-nay-co), bringing their roster total to five players, all of whom have made the move with the club to the ECHL (a complete list of signings to-date is listed below).
Chorneyko is coming off a fantastic rookie season with the Eagles in which he earned Central Hockey League All-Rookie Team honors during the regular season, then led the league in points during the playoffs (28 in 22 games).
The 22-year old winger accumulated 32 points (14-18-32) in 40 games last season; his .8 points-per-game average was the second-highest of any rookie who played in 40 or more regular season games. He tied for 3rd among rookies in game-winning goals (3), and finished among the top-10 in goals, assists, points & plus/minus rating.
In the playoffs, Chorneyko took his game to another level. The rookie winger helped lead the Eagles all the way to their league record fifth President's Cup Finals appearance, leading the league in points (28), assists (18) & plus/minus (+19), while tying for 3rd in goals (10). His playoff production was highlighted by a 4-point performance -- including his first career hat trick -- in Colorado's 8-1 victory in Game 6 of the Finals.
"Adam Chorneyko grew by leaps and bounds last season, becoming one of our best players on the way to another Finals appearance," said Eagles head coach & general manager Chris Stewart. "We expect even bigger and better things from him this season, and he's exactly the type of young, highly-talented player our fans can expect to see more of in the ECHL."
The 2011-12 regular season begins on Friday, Oct. 14, with the Eagles' home-opener taking place on Friday, Oct. 21. A complete schedule can be found at www.ColoradoEagles.com.
