Erie Otters News Release

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League own the third and 63rd overall picks in the 2011 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft being held tomorrow (Wednesday) beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The third pick is scheduled to take place at 9:20 a.m., and the 63rd pick after 7:00 p.m.

Each team in the CHL is permitted to carry two European Import players each season. These players are selected annually at the Import Draft, with the order of selection rotating through each of the three leagues in the CHL using an inverse order of their final regular season standings from the 2011-12 season.

The Otters have overage Norwegian center *Sondre Olden* held over from last year's Import Draft. He was selected with the 31st pick from MODO. CHL rules permit a team to hold over an overage import player and select two players in the Import Draft.

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's expansion entry Sherbrooke Phoenix owns the first selection of the 2012 CHL Import Draft. The Western Hockey League's Prince Albert Raiders will select second.

The top two picks in the 2011 CHL Import Draft, London's Olli Maatta and Quebec's Mikhail Grigorenko, were first round picks in last weekend's 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Calgary's Victor Rask was the third overall pick, and he was previously selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round in 2011.
