Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
MLS' Week 10 of the 2013 season is just around the corner and Chivas USA's next opponent is Sporting Kansas City, team they will face on Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m. PT in Sporting Park, stadium located west of Kansas City.
Sporting currently sits in the fourth spot of the Eastern Conference with 14 points, just below the Montreal Impact, the New York Red Bulls and the Houston Dynamo.
Before playing the Week 10 match, Chivas USA will have five training sessions, three of which will be held at The Home Depot Center on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday afternoon, the team will travel to Kansas City where they will have their fourth training, a light session held at the team hotel.
Chivas USA will hold their second training at Kansas City on Saturday afternoon, the fifth of the week and the closing session ahead of the team's match against coach Peter Vermes' Kansas City team.
For the upcoming Week 10 of the 2013 MLS season, Chivas USA will be able to count on two more players who were suspended in Week 9; midfielder Edgar "Chore" Mejia and defender Bobby Burling have complied with the suspensions issued after the match against the Colorado Rapids.
Oswaldo Minda's Rehabilitation report
With great optimism to be back on the field with Chivas USA, midfielder Oswaldo Minda is making good progress with right quad injury that has kept him out of action in the last four weeks of the 2013 MLS season.
Previous to the match against San Jose, Minda had a few minutes with the rest of the team in training; the versatile Ecuadorian player was happy in with the way his recovery has been progressing, and hopes to be defending the Red-and-White colors soon.
"I've been getting better, it's been a long recovery since the affected quad is a very important muscle, it's where my body supports itself, and it's on the leg that I use to kick the ball. With all that, it's been a longer recovery than expected, but I'm working slowly to see if perhaps this week I can play," the player said.
"I've been trying to re-join training to see how I feel, but I still feel some discomfort when I hit the ball; when you look to change the flight of the ball during a game, it's when you can get a feel of where you're at and if you're ready for a game, which for me, as of today, has not been favorable. I can't help the team just yet, but I hope that with the therapy and the exercises I'm doing, I can be ready as soon as possible," he said.
Even though he wants to be on the field the most minutes possible with his teammates, the Ecuadoran midfielder was sincere in mentioning that he doesn't want to speed up his recovery, and he knows that if he's not at his best, he will be more prone to getting a new injury.
"You can't make up muscle injuries; if you go into the field with an injury, the chances of you tearing a muscle are much greater and the time out is more extensive, so that's what we're trying to avoid," he concluded.
Chivas USA's U15 maintains streak in National Cup
Chivas USA's U15 teams extended their winning streak in the group phase of Cal South's 2013 National Cup over the weekend in Lancaster National Soccer Complex.
The U15's kicked off action on Saturday with a 4-0 win over CUSC 97 Blue. Jason Ballejo, Bryan Galindo, Ivan Gutierrez and Orlando Lopez each scored for the Red-and-White team. With the final result, the U15 team earned their second shutout of the tournament.
Chivas USA's U15 continued their tournament participation on Sunday in a hard-fought match against the Fullerton Rangers B97 White. Though the two teams battled until the final minute, the Red-and-White came out on top with a 4-3 win and finished in first place of their group. Arturo Garcia scored two goals for the Red-and-White, while Jason Ballejo and Orlando Lopez each scored one goal, their second of the weekend.
U15 Coach Juan Sanchez expressed content with the team's performance over the weekend stating that the team did a magnificent job at controlling ball possession and finishing their chances.
With the win, the Chivas USA Youth Academy team moved on to the Round of 32. The U15 squad will look to move on in the tournament facing the San Diego Surf Academy this Sunday, May 5 at 12 pm in Lancaster.
