Chivas USA to Open 2011 Season on Saturday, March 19 Against Omar Bravo and Sporting Kansas City

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, December 20, 2010) - Major League Soccer announced on Monday that Chivas USA will open the 2011 Major League Soccer Season on Saturday, March 19 against Sporting Kansas City, featuring striker Omar Bravo, at 7:30 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center. Chivas USA will face Sporting Kansas City in Opening Day for the first time in team history in what may be Designated Player Omar Bravo's debut in Major League Soccer. The Red-and-White have a 4-2-0 record in Home Openers, scoring 10 goals and allowing five, in six games.

MLS' 16th season will kick off on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 when Seattle Sounders FC host the LA Galaxy live on ESPN at 9:30 p.m. ET. All 18 clubs will take the field during the opening "First Kick" week as they embark on a 34-game, balanced regular season in which every club will face each of the other 17 twice - once at home, once on the road. Ten teams will qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs. The entire 2011 MLS regular season will be released by early February. Although MLS will schedule games on FIFA friendly dates, no games will be scheduled on FIFA World Cup Qualifying dates.
