Chivas USA to debut in CONCACAF Champions League Tuesday in Panama City

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, Aug. 22, 2008) - Chivas USA, in just its fourth year in Major League Soccer, is set to make its official debut in overseas international competition when it travels to Panama City to face local powerhouse Tauro F.C. in the Preliminary Round of the inaugural CONCACAF Champions League on Tuesday, Aug. 26. Kickoff at Rod Carew National Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT (5:00 p.m. PT) and the match will be televised live on Galavision (and tape-delayed on Fox Soccer Channel at 7:00 p.m. PT).

Regional bragging rights are on the line as Chivas USA looks to advance to the Group Stage of the inaugural CONCACAF Champions League, which pits the best teams in North and Central America and the Caribbean against each other for a spot in the 2009 FIFA Club Word Cup.

The decisive return leg of the two-game series is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 7:00 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center. Tickets start at just $15 and parking is free for fans in attendance. CREDENTIALING NOTE: All media members currently holding a 2008 Chivas USA Season Credential will be automatically issued a credential for Chivas USA's Sept. 2 match vs. Tauro F.C. Additional media members seeking credentials for this match should email Chivas USA Communications Coordinator David Lindholm (dlindholm@cdchivasusa.com) no later than 3:00 p.m. PT this Monday, Aug. 25 with their request. Credentials will be available for pick-up stating at Chivas USA's match vs. Toronto FC on Aug. 30 at The Home Depot Center.

The Red-and-White, currently without several key starters due to injury, on Wednesday began a grueling 18-day stretch during which it will play six matches in four cities, racking up nearly 10,000 miles of travel between Houston, Los Angeles, Panama City and Toronto. Should Chivas USA advance to the Group Stage of the CONCACAF Champions League, it would be placed in Group D with Mexico's Santos Laguna, Guatemala's CSD Municipal and either Costa Rica's LD Alajuelense or the Puerto Rico Islanders.
