CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, February 4, 2010) - Chivas USA scored four goals in a 13-minute span in the second half on its way to a 5-1 victory over Loyola Marymount University in a preseason scrimmage held today on Field 6 at The Home Depot Center. Forward Maicon Santos scored twice in three minutes, and Gerson Mayén notched two assists for the Red-and-White.

Chivas USA used many of its more experienced players in the first half, including Zach Thornton, Carey Talley, Sacha Kljestan, and Jonathan Bornstein. After LMU's Adam Jackson scored the game's first goal in the eighth minute after picking up a loose ball behind the defense and finishing past Thornton, the Red-and-White struck back in the 15th minute when Justin Braun finished a rebound off a Maykel Galindo shot. Chivas USA came close to scoring a second goal on several occasions, including a low shot from Michael Lahoud that hit the post in minute 35.

The second half brought more success for the Red-and-White, who took the lead just three minutes after the restart. Gerson Mayén took a free kick from the left wing and draftee Kevin Tangney flicked a header over the goalkeeper and into the net for Chivas' second goal. Just two minutes later, Artur Aghasyan took a pass from Chris Ross and finished from close range to extend the lead to 3-1. Maicon Santos scored two goals in three minutes to put the score at 5-1, capping the scoring in the 62nd minute. At the end of the match, Santos suffered a left knee injury; he is being evaluated and information on the injury will be made public when it is available.

With the win, the Red-and-White extend their preseason record to 2-0, after topping the Ventura County Fusion earlier this week. The team returns to training tomorrow and will play an intra-squad scrimmage on Saturday before taking Sunday off. The regular season for the Red-and-White kicks off on Friday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center. Season seats are on sale starting at just $10 per game; for more information, or to purchase tickets, visit cdchivasusa.com or call 1-877-CHIVAS-1.
