Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
PEORIA, Ariz. - Chivas USA Reserves blanked Arizona United SC with a 4-0 performance over the USL-PRO side on Saturday night at Peoria Sports Complex. The Goats took a 3-0 lead by halftime on Kristopher Tyrpak's first professional goal and forward Ryan Finley's brace, who signed a hat-trick by scoring the final tally on a second-half penalty kick.
It only took 15 minutes for Chivas USA to get a brace on the scoreboard, Tyrpak got control of a ball by Arizona's arc, and with a potent shot, surpassed host goalkeeper Evan Newton for the 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. Just one minute later, Tyrpak helped to double the lead after driving the ball up the left flank and into the box to put a pass backwards that Finley tapped into the back of the net from the penalty spot.
An unstoppable Finley scored again just before halftime, when in the 42nd minute, the forward won a battle against the last two Arizona defenders and chipped the ball over Newton for the 3-0 Chivas lead.
Coming into the second half, the Goats aimed to keep the momentum going as Matthew Fondy, sprinting the ball up the left flank, struck a shot into the far post for what could have been the 4-0 lead in the 49th minute.
Arizona began pushing their numbers forward in search of a comeback, and in the 67th minute, in a key sequence by second-half substitute Trevor Spangenberg, the keeper stopped back-to-back shots from Scott Morrison and Bradlee Baladez.
Just three minutes later, Chivas were awarded a penalty kick after Tyrpak received a dangerous foul inside the box by Tyler Ruthven, who was consequently ejected with a straight red card. Finley was chosen as the executor, and the forward did not miss the opportunity to score a hat-trick and give Chivas USA the 4-0 victory on the road.
Chivas USA Reserves will return to Los Angeles where they will join the rest of the Red-and-White squad as they prepare to host the Portland Timbers in a midweek Western Conference showcase. Scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. (PT) on Wednesday at the StubHub Center, the match will mark the second leg of the season series and the only visit by the Timbers to Chivas territory.
