
Chivas USA Defeats Loyola Marymount Lions

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, February 24, 2012) - Chivas USA took to the pitch this Friday afternoon at Home Depot Center's University Field #2 one last time prior to departing to Portland for a pre-season tournament, and defeated the Loyola Marymount University Lions by a score of 4-0 in the scrimmage. This result sets the Red-and-White's preseason record at 3-5-0.
1 - 0 - The first goal for the Rojiblancos was scored by Chivas USA's 5th overall SuperDraft pick, Maryland University's Casey Townsend, in the 10th minute of the contest, after a previous shot rebounded off the crossbar. This was Townsend's third goal of the preseason.
2 - 0 - Goats second score of the afternoon would come in the 19th minute from recent arrival, trialist Allan Souza, assisted by Alejandro Moreno on a cross pass from the left side of the box.
3 - 0 - Just before the end of the first half in the 40th minute, Townsend would land his fourth goal of the pre-season for the Goats, as trialist and also recent arrival Matt Dallman would assist on the score.
4 - 0 - The final score of the match would be for the Goats by way of a penalty kick in favor of Chivas USA after a Lions' defender fouled Allan Souza inside the box. Referee Magic Berenji would signal and whistle the PK that recently signed forward, Cesar Romero would cash in for the Red-and-White in the 48th minute. This is Romero's 3rd goal of the pre-season.
This scrimmage gave Coach Fraser an opportunity to have a look in action at a handful of recently arrived trialist like Najera, Souza, and Dallman. In addition to a balanced group of starters and veterans for the Goats this pre-season.
The Red-and- White now travel to the Pacific Northwest as they make their way to Portland, OR for a round robin tournament where they will face over the course of a week the likes of AIK from Holland, San Jose Earthquakes, and hosts of the tourney, The Portland Timbers. The Goats see first action next Monday, February 27 at 5 pm PT when they square off against AIK of Holland at JELD-WEN Field.
