Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, Aug. 24, 2012) - Chivas USA announced today that three of its Academy players have been named to the US Men's Under-17 National Team Residency Program for the fall semester. The 31 players selected to train full-time in Bradenton, Fla. will be in preparation for the 2013 CONCACAF U-17 Championship from April 6-19 in Panama.

Among the youngest selected youths is Chivas USA defender Malcolm Jones. The Chino Hills product is one of six players on the roster born in 1997. Fellow defender Adonis Amaya (Westminster, Calif.), and forward Bradford Jamieson (Los Angeles, Calif.) will also form part of the US' roster.

"We are very proud of our Academy program. This is the result of the hard work and dedication of our coaching staff and players," said Chivas USA's General Manager Jose Domene. "I am sure Malcolm, Adonis, and Bradford will excel at representing Chivas USA and the U-17 United States National Team."

Beginning in 1999, the Residency Program has given players an opportunity to grow and move up the ladder in the world of soccer and become professionals in Major League Soccer, some of the biggest clubs in Europe and even make an impact on the full U.S. Men's National Team. Since its inception, more than 300 players have been through the full-time Residency Program, and more than 100 of those players have moved on to Major League Soccer or the professional leagues in Europe.

There are 24 players representing 19 Development Academy clubs, including three from Chivas USA, while California is listed as the home state for 12 of the 31 players. The U.S. players live on campus at the IMG Academies in Bradenton and train in the morning under the guidance of U.S. U-17 Men's National Team head coach Richie Williams and his coaching staff. In the afternoon, the players attend classes at St. Stephen's Episcopal School.

While in the full-time Residency Program, the U.S. team not only trains daily, but also has access to the IMG Academies facilities. The team regularly uses the state-of-the-art strength-training facilities, as well as brand new dormitories and meal rooms.

Chivas USA continues its Western Conference push when it hosts Seattle Sounders FC, Saturday, Aug. 25 at The Home Depot Center, for a 7:30 pm PT match. The game will broadcast on television, live on Fox Sports West in English and KWHY 22 in Spanish. For more information about the game please visit cdchivasusa.com .
