Reno Silver Sox News Release
Reno Silver Sox catcher Masashi Chikazawa will have to stay out of the Silver Sox series against Chico this week before he is cleared to play for the Silver Sox again.
Chikazawa received the throw to the plate to try and keep an Outlaw from scoring on Tuesday's, July 3, game. However, the hit left Chikazawa motionless near home plate as trainer Alex Barnagian rushed to help him. Paramedics were called and Chikazawa was carried off the field on a stretcher surrounded by the applause of 2685 fans.
Chikazawa had a CT scan of his head and neck and it was determined by doctors that he suffered a slight concussion and a neck sprain. To be safe, Chikazawa will not play for the next three days, but will available to play on Saturday if Manager Les Lancaster feels that Chikazawa is 100 percent ready.
"We?ll wait and see how he feels on Saturday and then we will go from there," said Lancaster.
Chikazawa, a catcher from Japan, played last season for the Silver Sox. This season Chikazawa has a .262 batting average, with three doubles, one triple, two homeruns, and eight RBIs.
The Silver Sox have also been busy making several more moves trying to find the right pieces to the puzzle.
Silver Sox outfielder Travis Tully was traded to the Coastal Bend Aviators of the American Association for a player to be named later. Tully will join former Silver Sox outfielder Phil Grau in Coastal Bend. Tully had a .232 batting average with three doubles and five RBIs over 69 at-bats.
The Silver Sox also signed a new pitcher, Shawn Balteff. Balteff is a RHP from Palomar College in San Marcos, CA.
The Silver Sox return to Peccole Park on Saturday, July 7, to take on the St. George Roadrunners in a three game series. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with gates opening at 6:00 p.m. For tickets to this game or any other Silver Sox game, Click Here or visit the Silver Sox ticket booth before the game.
