Spokane Chiefs News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs, via the Saskatoon Blades, won the first overall selection in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft at the draft lottery on Wednesday afternoon in Calgary. The Chiefs acquired the pick from the Blades in a January 2013 trade.

Spokane's pick, to be made at the draft in Calgary on May 7, will mark just the second time in franchise history that the Chiefs have chosen first. They selected defenseman Jared Cowen out of Allan, Sask. with the top pick in 2006. Cowen went on to become a first round (ninth overall) NHL selection by the Ottawa Senators, a team captain and an important member of the Spokane's 2008 Memorial Cup Championship team.

The Chiefs hold two picks in the top ten of the draft, adding the ninth overall selection. Spokane has chosen in the top ten just ten times since the first WHL Bantam Draft in 1990; most recently the Cowen pick. Other notable top ten selections for the Chiefs include center Mitch Wahl (4th in 2005), left winger Drayson Bowman (8th in 2004) and center Derek Schutz (5th in 1994).

Spokane opens up their 2015 WHL Playoff first round series versus the Everett Silvertips on the road this Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28. They return home for Game 3 and Game 4 at Spokane Arena on Wednesday, April 1 and Friday, April 3.

Tickets for the Chiefs' first two playoff games are on sale now at the Chiefs' Ticket Office, over the phone at (509) 535-PUCK or (800) 325-SEAT, via TicketsWest outlets and online at www.ticketswest.com.
