Chiefs to Hold Contest in Honor of Jackie Robinson

SYRACUSE (NY) - The Syracuse Chiefs announced today that they will be holding a special contest for students in grades K-12 in conjunction with "Jackie Robinson Day", Sunday, April 15th.

Students can submit entries in one of three categories: art, essay and poetry. Each student that submits an entry will receive two tickets to the Chiefs 2:00 PM doubleheader on April 15th vs. Ottawa Lynx. Winners of the contest will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.

Contest guidelines:

Art: Create an artistic piece that demonstrates the spirit of Jackie Robinson. The artwork can

be a painting, drawing, or other rendering, but should not be larger than 22" x 28".

Essay: Submit an essay that chronicles the life struggles of Robinson. Essays should be

between 250-350 words.

Poetry: Write a poem that explores one or more of Robinson's nine values for success:

courage, determination, teamwork, persistence, integrity, citizenship, justice, commitment, and

excellence. Poems should be between 10-12 lines.

Prizes:

- One FIRST PRIZE winner will be selected at every grade level in each of the three

categories. First prize winners will receive a Chiefs hat and will be recognized on-field prior

to the Chiefs' game against the Ottawa Lynx on April 15.

- One GRAND PRIZE winner from each category will also win a night in a luxury suite

for 12 people at the game of their choice (subject to availability).

- The SCHOOL that submits the highest percentage of entries per student will win a visit

from Chiefs players.

Entries must be submitted to the Syracuse Chiefs Offices - 1 Tex Simone Dr, Syracuse, NY 13208

- prior to Friday, March 30 at 5 pm.
