Spokane Chiefs News Release
The Spokane Chiefs scored two power play goals and outshot the Prince George Cougars 32-30 on Saturday night in a 4-2 win in the Spokane Arena. Scott Lynch and Chad Klassen each had a goal and assist in the Chiefs 22nd win of the season.
Doug Auchenberg scored the opening goal 9:44 into the first period, just three seconds after a power play started, with a one timer from the top of the right circle. Brad Schell won a draw back to the point and Auchenberg placed it perfectly, top-shelf, stick side.
A pair of goals in the second period pushed the Chiefs lead to 3-0. Sean Zimmerman's third goal of the season was snapped on from the slot and was assisted by Ned Lukacevic and Klassen.
A minute and a half later Klassen scored his team leading 28th with a power play marker set up by Brad Schell and Lynch. Schell finished the night with a pair of helpers.
Lynch then blasted a shot from the blue line that blistered the back of the net at 7:58 of the third. Lynch drug the puck across the top of the slot and opened enough space for himself to let it fly for his 10th of the year to lead all Chiefs defenseman in goals scored.
Prince George ended the shutout bid for Gerry Festa, who made 28 saves in his first win as a Chief, at 10:51. The Cougars would score on the power play, plus an extra attacker after the goaltender headed for the bench, at 15:56 for the final margin.
Spokane finished the night 2-6 on the power play and 5-6 on the penalty kill.
