Spokane Chiefs News Release

Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs have announced they will rename their annual Players' Player award after longtime scout Terry Bartman. The Chiefs first ever Terry Bartman Players' Player of the Year will be presented on the ice in a pre-game ceremony on Sunday, March 17th when Spokane hosts the Wenatchee Wild.

Terry joined the organization, working out of Medicine Hat, Alberta, in 1990 and continued in that role until 2017. He helped the Chiefs win the 1991 and 2008 Memorial Cups. Terry passed away in March, 2023.

The Player's Player is selected by just the players and presented to the peer that exemplifies the qualities of a great teammate and someone who sets the standard of what it means to be a Spokane Chief. As a scout for the organization, Terry's friendship, loyalty, sense of humor, and work ethic did just that for the hockey operations department.

The Terry Bartman Players' Player award will be one of eight awards presented on Sunday night. The other honors include:

Scholastic Player of the Year - High School

Scholastic Player of the Year - College

Humanitarian of the Year

Ken Rabel Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year

Rookie of the Year

John "Hitman" Hern Defenseman of the Year

Player of the Year
