Chiefs Proudly Partner with Military Support Organizations

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs Hockey Club, through its "Chiefs Care" community initiative, is proud to donate $1,000 to the Washington State Fallen Heroes Banner Project and $2,500 to the Wounded Warrior Project. The funds, raised in part through the auction of military-themed jerseys from the Chiefs' home game on January 24, 2015, will help provide financial support to both organizations, focusing on military service and sacrifice.

"The WFHP provides comfort and support to families of the fallen," said Washington State Fallen Heroes Banner Project founder Kim Cole. "We strive to promote awareness among the community of the sacrifices being made to protect our freedoms. These funds are used to have new banners made as well as a replica that is given to the family."

Cole said the Fallen Heroes Fund is involved in a wide variety of local events. The remembrance banners, which were hung around the Spokane Arena concourse on Military Appreciation Night in January, as well as a parade float are currently scheduled to participate in over 30 community events, with more requests coming in every day.

The Wounded Warrior Project works to "show support for our nation's post-9/11 veterans and warriors," said Mike Ogle, a Volunteer Peer Mentor and Peer Group Facilitator with the organization. "We help reintegrate warriors back into the civilian lifestyle, in the Spokane are in particular through a peer-facilitated support group. It provides a safe environment for warriors to come together weekly and help each other."

Funds raised for the Wounded Warrior Project "help provide financial support to the 20 programs that the WWP has to offer, to honor and empower warriors and caregivers," Ogle noted. "Multiple tours in unfriendly areas have put a toll on our warriors. Your help is much appreciated."
