
Chiefs Play A Pair This Weekend

After opening the home portion of their season with a 5-2 win over the Tri-City Americans last Saturday night, the Chiefs will take the ice again this weekend with two games, including a Friday night date with the Portland Winterhawks in the Spokane Arena. Saturday night, the Chiefs and Americans will play for the first time in Tri-City. Both games begin at 7:00.
On Friday night, the first 3,000 fans through the doors (and all full-season ticket holders in attendance) will receive a free magnet schedule courtesy of The Black Book by Hagadone Directories.
Through the first two weeks of the season the Chiefs and Hawks have taken the early lead in the WHL's U.S. Division with Portland starting 3-1-0-0 through four games and the Chiefs earning a point in all three games they have played with a 2-0-1-0 mark through three games.

NOTES VS. PORTLAND
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2ND AIR-6:30 GAME-7:00
The Chiefs will host Portland for the first of eight match-ups on the season; four of them coming in each other's building. Spokane and Portland will play a home-an-home series in their next match-up, October 31st in Spokane and November 1st in Portland. The Chiefs were 7-2 in nine games last year. Tyler Johnson led all scorers in the series with six goals and 13 points in seven games. Steve Kuhn (4-5-9), Levko Koper (3-6-9), and Mitch Wahl (3-6-9) all had six points in the series. James Reid was 1-1 in his two starts versus the Hawks with a 2.02 GAA and .930 save percentage.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3RD AIRTIME-6:30 GAMETIME-7:05
The Chiefs will travel to take on the Americans in their second of 12 meetings, the first in Kennewick, on the season. Spokane opened the series with a 5-2 win last Saturday night as Kyle Beach had two goals and an assist. Mitch Wahl, Brett Bartman and Jared Cowen also scored for the Chiefs. Cowen and Wahl also had assists and Stefan Ulmer had three helpers. Each team was 2-5 on the power play and Spokane outshot the Americans 37-25, including 32-11 in the final two games. Last year, the home team won nine of the 12 match-ups. Spokane won the season series 7-4-0-1 with a 5-1 record at home. The Americans finished 5-5-0-2 with a 4-1-0-1 record at home. Mitch Wahl had nine goals in 10 games versus the Americans while Jared Spurgeon (2-4-6) and Stefan Ulmer (0-6-6) each had six points. James Reid made three starts and finished the season 2-1. In its 21st year of existence the Chiefs lead the series 125-110-1-5 with 13 ties.
CRATSENBERG RECEIVES ONE GAME SUSPENSION
The Western Hockey League has announced that Chiefs forward T.C. Cratsenberg has been suspended for one game after receiving a match penalty versus Tri-Cities on September 26. Cratsenberg will miss Friday night's home game versus the Portland Winterhawks.
