Chiefs Knock Off T-Birds In Everett

Everett, September 6, 2009 - The Spokane Chiefs defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Comcast Arena in Everett in the team's third game at the Everett Preseason Tournament.

The T-Birds defeated the Prince George Cougars 3-2 on Friday in their first game at the tournament. They lost to the Everett Silvertips, 5-1, on Saturday in their second game of the tournament.

The only home preseason game of the year will be on Saturday, September 12, against the Everett Silvertips at ShoWare Center at 7:05 p.m. This game is a special fundraiser game for the Kent School District. Tickets can be purchased on the T-Birds website. Spokane took a 1-0 lead at 11:56 of the first period on a power-play goal by Brady Brassart. Stefan Ulmer and Brenden Kichton had the assists.

The Chiefs went in front 2-0 at 14:02 of the first on a goal by Kenton Miller. Mike Reddington had the only assist on the goal.

Spokane outshot Seattle 9-4 in the first period.

Mitch Wahl put the Chiefs up 3-0 at 17:09 of the second period. Matt Marantz and Ulmer had the assists.

Calvin Pickard replaced Kyle Jahraus in net halfway through the second period. Jahraus made 13 saves on 15 shots and was credited with the loss.

The Chiefs outshot the T-Birds 11-8 in the second period and led 20-12 in total shots after two periods.

Spokane outshot Seattle 31-16 in the game.

Pickard made 15 saves on 16 shots.

Spokane goalie Alex Wright stopped all 16 shots he faced to get the shutout.

The T-Birds will open the 2009-10 Western Hockey League regular season with back-to-back home games against the Silvertips on Friday, September 18, at 7:35 p.m. and the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday, September 19, at 7:05 p.m. Both games are at ShoWare Center in Kent.

T-Birds single game tickets for the 2009-10 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
