Chiefs Fall to Seattle 3-2

The Spokane Chiefs lost a 3-2 contest to the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Arena on Monday afternoon in front of 4,243 fans. The Chiefs lost for the fourth time this season when heading into the third period with the lead. It was the second of eight games between the two teams, with the season series now tied at one.

Mike Aviani had the lone goal of the first period, skating left to right across the crease and shooting the puck over a sprawling Calvin Pickard. It was Aviani's seventh goal of the year, matching his total from last season.

Seattle evened the score at one early in the second period, with Seth Swenson scoring on a power play at 4:21.

The Chiefs regained the lead shortly after thanks to a one-timer by Blake Gal, courtesy of a Steven Kuhn set up.

Spokane however was never able to build on the lead, and at 11:38 of the third Swenson scored his second of the game for Seattle to tie the game at two.

The Thunderbirds completed their comeback at 14:36 of the third, scoring on a short-handed rush to the net by Justin Hickman. The goal proved to be the game winner as neither team found the back of the net the remainder of the game.

The Chiefs finished the game 0-6 on the power play, with the Thunderbirds going 1-2. Shots on goal favored Seattle 34-23.
