
Chiefs drop series opener 4-2

Pawtucket, RI - On the first game of an eight game road trip on Friday night the Syracuse Chiefs, the triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, lost 4-2 to the Pawtucket Red Sox. At McCoy Stadium, Mike Cameron hit a two run home run and Aaron Bates added an RBI in the winning effort for the PawSox.
Syracuse (20-13) scored first in the ballgame for the eleventh time this season. With two outs, outfielder Mike Morse launched a home run over the left field wall off of Pawtucket starter Michael Bowden. Syracuse scored again in the fourth when Carlos Maldonado plated Morse with two outs.
Pawtucket (16-19) scored for the first time in the third inning when Mike Cameron, with the PawSox on a rehab assignment, sent a two run home run to left field off of Syracuse starter Matt Chico. This was Chico's first start at AAA in 2010. The third run for Pawtucket came in the sixth off of Chiefs reliever Jesse English (1-1). He walked the first two batters he faced, and Jason Reddick eventually scored on a single by Aaron Bates.
The fourth and final run for the PawSox came in the seventh with Syracuse's Joel Peralta pitching With Jorge Jimenez on second and two out, a slow roller up the first base line by Reddick was thrown away by Joel Peralta which allowed Jimenez to score. A throwing error was charged to Peralta on the play.
Chad Paronto (1-1) earned the win for Pawtucket throwing two innings of scoreless, one hit baseball in the sixth and seventh.
On Saturday, the Chiefs and the PawSox will play game two of their four game series Shairon Martis (1-2, 6.00) will start for Syracuse and Randor Bierd (2-3, 4.67) is scheduled to pitch for Pawtucket. First pitch will be at 6:05.
