Chiefs Drop Final Game Before Holidays

Charles Wells' goal with 23-seconds remaining in overtime gave the Seattle Thunderbirds a 3-2 win over the Spokane Chiefs on Friday night in the Spokane Arena. The game was the final one for Spokane before their eight day holiday break as the Chiefs won't return to action until Sunday, December 27th at 6:00 against the Portland Winterhawks. Spokane and Portland tied with for second place in the U.S. Division.

Mitch Wahl's third goal in two games gave Spokane a 1-0 lead at 16:55 of the first period. Seattle scored the lone goal of the second on a puck that bounced off James Reid's glove and barley slid over the goal line. They took a 2-1 lead at 3:23 of the third with a goal by Prab Rai.

The Chiefs Anthony Bardaro scored his first career goal at 11:06 of the final frame to even the score and help put the game into overtime for the first time this year at home. Seattle's fifth shot in the extra session ended the contest. The Chiefs finished the game with 25 shots, none in overtime.

Spokane was 0-2 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill.

Friday's win by Seattle was their first against the Chiefs this year in five tries.
