COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Peoria Chiefs grabbed an early lead but the West Michigan Whitecaps drove home Dominic Ficocello three times for a 3-1 win on Thursday night. The loss drops the Chiefs to 3-3 on the roadtrip, 16-10 in the second half and 53-42 overall.

After losing a runner on the basepaths in the first, the Chiefs scored the first run of the game in the second inning against Jonathan Crawford, the Detroit Tigers first round pick in 2013. Juan Herrera singled with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch. Ronald Castillo put the Chiefs on top 1-0 with a single to right but he was left at second as the inning ended.

Ficocello led off the second with a double for the Whitecaps and Grayson Grenier singled to put runners on the corners against Chase Brookshire. Francisco Contreras singled to tie the game before Brookshire escaped trouble.

Crawford cruised through the next three innings and the hosts took a 2-1 lead in the fourth as Ficocello doubled and scored on a Contreras fielder's choice. In the sixth Ficocello singled to start the inning and later scored on a single by Wily Adames for a 3-1 lead. Kenny Peoples-Walls threw out Grenier at the plate on the Adames single to keep the Chiefs within two runs.

Peoria picked up just one hit over the final four innings against the Whitecaps bullpen. Carson Kelly singled with one out in the sixth but was doubled off first base on a line drive by Justin Ringo. Ringo walked with two outs in the ninth but Herrera grounded out on the next pitch as Scott Sitz earned the save.

Brookshire (3-5) took the tough loss allowing three runs on eight hits over six innings. The lefty walked one and struck out three in the quality start. Jhonny Polanco threw two shutout innings with one hit allowed, one balk and two strikeouts.
