Spokane Chiefs News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs are pleased to announce that a $3,000 donation has been made to the Washington State Fallen Heroes Project (WAFHP), thanks to proceeds generated by the Chiefs' Military Appreciation Night jersey auction on January 20.
"We're very proud to partner with the Washington State Fallen Heroes Project," said Chiefs' Vice President of Sponsorships Jay Stewart. "It's important to us at the Chiefs to support local, community-focused non-profits, so for our Military Appreciation Night they are a perfect fit."
The WAFHP was established in 2007 by Gold Star Mom Kim Cole after the loss of her son, Corporal Darrel J. Morris. After creating a memorial banner for the Time of Remembrance event in Richland, Wash., Cole was approached by other Gold Star families to do the same, resulting into more than 300 banners over the past 10 years.
On January 20, the Chiefs wore special patriotic-themed jerseys in a 5-4 overtime win over the Tri-City Americans. The unique game-worn jerseys were placed in a silent auction on the main Concourse at Spokane Arena, with proceeds benefiting the WSFHP.
