Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. - The Chiefs welcomed the Thunderbirds to the Spokane Arena on Saturday night for the second half of a back-to-back home-and-home series versus Seattle. It was a busy night at the arena with the Derek Ryan Coca-Cola Bobblehead Giveaway, Sponsor Night, Women In Hockey Night, and a live Jersey Off The Back Auction on the concourse, supporting the Chiefs' Continuing Education Fund.
On the ice, Spokane was first off the mark on the power play with a trademark laser from star-man Berkly Catton.
Bertholet carried the puck around the net before feeding Catton who made no mistake on his 49th of the season at 11:02 of the first. Roulette also made the scoresheet with his first assist of the night.
Just a few minutes later it was Saige Weinstein doing his best Catton impression, firing the one-timer from the dot for another power play goal.
Spokane finished out the first period with a 2-0 lead before Roulette decided to take matters into his own hands. He would score back-to-back goals in the second period including a beautiful individual effort down the length of the ice.
Crampton and Feist teamed up for the assists on Roulette's first of the night. Later in the period, Roulette would add a second, with assists from Catton and Crampton.
Cooper Michaluk's lone blemish came via a flukey goal late in the second period for Braeden Cootes, making it a 4-1 game in favor of the home team.
Lukáš Král squashed any chance of a late flurry from the Birds with an empty net goal at 17:18 in the third. Hayden Paupanekis and Chase Harrington provided the helpers.
The Chiefs celebrated postgame with goaltender Cooper Michaluk who made 36 saves, earning first star of the game. With two goals and an assist Conner Roulette was named second star, while Berkly Catton earned third star with a goal and an assist.
Spokane went 2/6 on the power play and 5/6 on the penalty kill in front of nearly 8,700 fans rocking the arena.
The Chiefs will return home on Tuesday for the final TicketsWest Player Magnet Giveaway of the season, featuring 20-year-old Conner Roulette. Puck drop is at 7:05 PM with doors open at 6:00 PM.
