Hawks Rout Wild 7-1 for Fourth Straight Win

March 10, 2024 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release

Three Winterhawks goals in the first and four in the third fueled a dominant 7-1 win over the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday night. The Hawks have now won four straight games.

Portland's record now stands at 43-15-2-1 on the year (89pts, 1st U.S. Division).

The scoring onslaught kicked off with two goals in 11 seconds - first on a deflection by Hudson Darby, then through a Tyson Yaremko breakaway just after the ensuing faceoff. James Stefan added another breakaway beauty at 14:11 to put the Hawks ahead 3-0 after 20 minutes.

A more tense second period saw Wenatchee get on the board through Hayden Moore, but that was as close as the Wild would get. Portland pressed again in the final frame and found goals from Josh Davies - featuring Gabe Klassen's 100th point of the season on the primary assist - then from Klassen himself before the midway point of the period. Josh Zakreski and Marek Alscher then tacked on two more to complete the rout.

Jan Špunar made 21 saves on 22 shots for his fourth straight win, while Wenatchee's Brendan Gee made 37 saves on 44 shots.

The Winterhawks are back in action on the road this Tuesday in Spokane.
